It’s Official…The Powder Blue Uniforms are Coming Back

Powder BluesThere are billboards around KC announcing it but I hadn’t heard anything official until this morning. The Kansas City Royals will be unveiling their new alternate jerseys for the 2008 season which will pay homage to the old Powder Blue jerseys that remind Royals fans of better times. The jerseys will be button down and they will be worn with white pants, which is a little odd to me. These jerseys will be unveiled tonight at a closed event for season ticket holders.

If you ask me, I say go big or go home. The Toronto Blue Jays also unveiled retro Powder Blue jerseys but theirs seem to be very close to the originals. They will be sporting the pullover v-neck tops with the powder blue pants and the awesome two-tone caps. I can’t wait to see them on the field again.

The Japanese Connection…

Not long ago, the Kansas City Royals hired Trey Hillman as their next manager. He had formerly been the manager of the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters in the Japanese professional leagues. Since his hiring, the Royals have already signed reliever Yasuhiko Yabuta to a 2 year contract. He’s a highly touted set-up man and should be great for the Royals.

It seems that the Japanese Connection might not end there, Newsday is reporting that the Royals are interested in two other Japanese players. One of those players has been linked to the Royals lately, righthander Hiroki Kuroda. He will fetch upwards of $10 million a year. The other player came out of nowhere. They are reporting that centerfielder Kosuke Fukudome has narrowed his choices down to the Royals and the Cubs. It has since been mentioned that of course, the Red Sox are also interested.

A Refreshing Change for the Royals…

It turns out that maybe our cellar-dwelling days are over here for the Kansas City Royals. The new General Manager has begun a very aggressive off-season and it is turning heads at the Winter Meetings this year. This is very out-of-character for the Royals but with the Detroit Tigers going crazy this off-season, and in the past couple years, it had to be done.
